SEABROOK (AP) – Part of a nuclear power plant went offline Friday afternoon for repairs and will remain shut down for the next few days, a spokesman said.
Seabrook Station’s non-nuclear operations were shut down about 4 p.m., spokesman Al Griffin said. The plant remains offline for non-emergency repairs.
CONCORD (AP) – A House panel voted Friday to recommend spending $5 million more than Gov. John Lynch proposed to reduce the time the disabled spend waiting for services.
The increase is close to the $7 million that Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen estimated would be needed to reduce the wait during the next two years. Lynch had increased funding in his budget, but did not include enough money to eliminate the waiting list. Lynch argued the provider network needed time to prepare for more clients.
Stephen insisted he could find money in his budget to cover the extra cost. He offered a list of ideas to lawmakers, who used some of them to come up with the $5 million.
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – The state attorney general’s office on Friday warned of a sham loan company using a non-existent Vermont address that was charging fees ranging from $900 to $2,000 without following through with loans.
Assistant Attorney General Elliot Burg said the company maintained a Web site that promised consumers personal loans of $5,000 to $85,000 and business loans of $5,000 to $250,000.
“Customers who fill out an online loan application form are contacted and asked to pay a fee in amounts ranging from over $900 to $2,000 for ‘securing’ the loan and, in many cases, additional money for ‘loan insurance’,” said a statement from the attorney general’s office.
