The county's Construction Industry Licensing Board voted to revoke Polak's permitting rights, which means the contractor and his company, America's Choice Kitchens, will not be allowed to start any new work in Charlotte.

The case against Polak started after Stevens filed a complaint against the contractor for taking a check for $3,800 to remodel her kitchen in July 2005.

Polak could not be reached for comment. The phone number for America's Choice Kitchens was disconnected as of Friday. He was not present at Thursday's meeting.

She said she hired Polak after she met him in a parking lot of a store. She had just come from Home Depot, which had quoted her a much higher price to redo her kitchen.

Also on Thursday, Charlotte County's licensing board had to delay a case against Dewey Truelove and his company, Palm Coast Roofing of Sarasota.
