LAKE SAN MARCOS ---- Outdated buildings and residents calling for facility improvements greeted Erik Richard when his company, The La Jolla Development Group, bought the Lake San Marcos Resort in 2004.

Since then, Richard said his company has spent millions of dollars to modernize the resort, renovate the restaurant and touch up the recreation facilities in the 250-acre retirement community.
